João Henrique Brandão was born in Curitiba, Brazil and was raised around paintings, books, palettes, pieces of furniture, tubes of oil paint and frames where he was taught the commitment and discipline essential to make art. He received his undergraduate degree from the School of Visual Arts of Parana (EMBAP), well known as one of the most influential art schools in Brazil in the field of Painting, and stood out still as a student being granted in the EMBAP’s Juried Exhibition. He has had several exhibitions in Parana and Sao Paulo including a solo exhibition at the State Legislature of Parana. His work has been represented at private and public collections in Brazil, Canada and United States. His greatest achievement was the acquisition grant by the president of The Oscar Niemeyer Museum (Curitiba,PR-Brazil), Mrs. Maristela Quarenghi de Melo e Silva.  Last year Brandão was invited to the residency program at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation in Bethany, CT, being the first artist from Latin America to get such an achievement. Now he lives and works in New York at his studio in Brooklyn and just had his first NY solo exhibition last March 2009 http://www.brazilnyc.com/2009/03/joao-henrique-brandao/ , so launching this talented Brazilian artist toward a great international career as an artist.
