CHUCK BOUX master glass blower has perfected the technique of inverting large bubbles of molton glass. In this piece, Sunrise over Bird Island, he started with a deep royal blue base and layered sunrise colors of pale yellow and amber and finished with the deep royal blue. Once the glass is set he then works his magic by 'taping' with cut outs, a scene of birds and palm trees on the blue base both on the inside and outside of the piece. He then sandblasts the exposed area to bring out the colors hidden beneath. The tape is removed to expose a shiny deep royal blue scene set against the matt sunrise. He has had numerous corporate commissions including the New York Yankees and Time Warner Communications. The Office of Protocol at the U.S. Department of State purchased a number of this 'Bird Island' series for gifts. I also own - 'Sunset over Bird Island' which is a little smaller with an antique bronze exterior on a light/dark amber glass base with a royal blue pattern on the interior; - A pair of vases on hammered silver bases from his 'Blue' series 'Alhambra Vase' which is on permanent display at The Smithsonian Museum of Art; and - Two pieces from his new work 'Under the Sea' - Blue Turtle & Acqu Octopus. His work is original and as he is near to retiring will become more and more valuable. I simply do not have the space to keep all of the pieces I own and am very motivated to find a good home for some of them. Questions welcome.
